David Again Spares Saul's Life
1. And the Ziphites came unto Saul to Gibeah, saying, Doth not David hide himself in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon?

2. Then Saul arose, and went down to the wilderness of Ziph, having three thousand chosen men of Israel with him, to seek David in the wilderness of Ziph.

3. And Saul pitched in the hill of Hachilah, which is before Jeshimon, by the way. But David abode in the wilderness, and he saw that Saul came after him into the wilderness.

4. David therefore sent out spies, and understood that Saul was come in very deed.

5. And David arose, and came to the place where Saul had pitched: and David beheld the place where Saul lay, and Abner the son of Ner, the captain of his host: and Saul lay in the trench, and the people pitched round about him.
5. Alors David se leva et vint au lieu où Saül était campé, et il vit la place où couchait Saül, avec Abner, fils de Ner, chef de son armée. Saül couchait au milieu du camp, et le peuple campait autour de lui.

6. Then answered David and said to Ahimelech the Hittite, and to Abishai the son of Zeruiah, brother to Joab, saying, Who will go down with me to Saul to the camp? And Abishai said, I will go down with thee.
6. David prit la parole, et s`adressant à Achimélec, Héthien, et à Abischaï, fils de Tseruja et frère de Joab, il dit: Qui veut descendre avec moi dans le camp vers Saül? Et Abischaï répondit: Moi, je descendrai avec toi.

7. So David and Abishai came to the people by night: and, behold, Saul lay sleeping within the trench, and his spear stuck in the ground at his bolster: but Abner and the people lay round about him.
7. David et Abischaï allèrent de nuit vers le peuple. Et voici, Saül était couché et dormait au milieu du camp, et sa lance était fixée en terre à son chevet. Abner et le peuple étaient couchés autour de lui.

8. Then said Abishai to David, God hath delivered thine enemy into thine hand this day: now therefore let me smite him, I pray thee, with the spear even to the earth at once, and I will not smite him the second time.
8. "Abischaï dit à David: Dieu livre aujourd`hui ton ennemi entre tes mains; laisse-moi, je te prie, le frapper de ma lance et le clouer en terre d`un seul coup, pour que je n`aie pas à y revenir."

9. And David said to Abishai, Destroy him not: for who can stretch forth his hand against the LORD's anointed, and be guiltless?
9. Mais David dit à Abischaï: Ne le détruis pas! car qui pourrait impunément porter la main sur l`oint de l`Éternel?
9. "Fa hoy Davida tamin' i Abisay: aza mamono azy; fa iza no haninjitra ny tanany amin' ny voahosotr' i Jehovah ka tsy hanan-tsiny?"
10. David said furthermore, As the LORD liveth, the LORD shall smite him; or his day shall come to die; or he shall descend into battle, and perish.
10. Et David dit: L`Éternel est vivant! c`est à l`Éternel seul à le frapper, soit que son jour vienne et qu`il meure, soit qu`il descende sur un champ de bataille et qu`il y périsse.
10. Ary hoy koa Davida: Raha velona koa Jehovah dia aoka Jehovah no hamely azy, na ho tonga ny androny, ka ho faty izy, na hirotsaka ho amin' ny ady izy dia ho faty.
11. The LORD forbid that I should stretch forth mine hand against the LORD's anointed: but, I pray thee, take thou now the spear that is at his bolster, and the cruse of water, and let us go.
11. Loin de moi, par l`Éternel! de porter la main sur l`oint de l`Éternel! Prends seulement la lance qui est à son chevet, avec la cruche d`eau, et allons-nous-en.
11. "Sanatria amiko eo anatrehan' i Jehovah, raha haninjitra ny tanako hamely ny voahosotr' i Jehovah aho; fa masìna ianao, ny lefona eo anilan' ny lohany sy ny tavoara fitondran-drano no alao, dia andeha isika handeha."
12. So David took the spear and the cruse of water from Saul's bolster; and they gat them away, and no man saw it, nor knew it, neither awaked: for they were all asleep; because a deep sleep from the LORD was fallen upon them.
12. "David prit donc la lance et la cruche d`eau qui étaient au chevet de Saül; et ils s`en allèrent. Personne ne les vit ni ne s`aperçut de rien, et personne ne se réveilla, car ils dormaient tous d`un profond sommeil dans lequel l`Éternel les avait plongés."
12. "Dia nalain' i Davida ny lefony sy ny tavoara izay teo anilan' ny ondan' i Saoly, ka dia lasa izy ireo, ary tsy nisy olona nahita izany, na nahalala izany, na nahatsiaro; fa natory izy rehetra, satria nataon' i Jehovah renoky ny torimaso izy."
13. Then David went over to the other side, and stood on the top of an hill afar off; a great space being between them:
13. David passa de l`autre côté, et s`arrêta au loin sur le sommet de la montagne, à une grande distance du camp.
13. "Dia nankeny am-pita Davida ka nijanona teo an-tampon' ny havoana iray lavidavitra, faritra lehibe no elanelan' izy ireo;"
14. And David cried to the people, and to Abner the son of Ner, saying, Answerest thou not, Abner? Then Abner answered and said, Who art thou that criest to the king?
14. Et il cria au peuple et à Abner, fils de Ner: Ne répondras-tu pas, Abner? Abner répondit: Qui es-tu, toi qui pousses des cris vers le roi?
14. Ary Davida niantso ny olona sy Abnera, zanak' i Nera, hoe: Tsy mamaly va ianao, ry Abnera? Ary Abnera dia namaly hoe: Iza moa ianao, no miantso ny mpanjaka?
15. And David said to Abner, Art not thou a valiant man? and who is like to thee in Israel? wherefore then hast thou not kept thy lord the king? for there came one of the people in to destroy the king thy lord.
15. Et David dit à Abner: N`es-tu pas un homme? et qui est ton pareil en Israël? Pourquoi donc n`as-tu pas gardé le roi, ton maître? Car quelqu`un du peuple est venu pour tuer le roi, ton maître.
15. Ary hoy Davida tamin' i Abnera: Tsy lehilahy mahery fo va ianao, ary iza no tahaka anao amin' ny Isiraely? Koa nahoana ianao no tsy niambina ny mpanjaka tomponao? fa nisy anankiray tamin' ny olona tonga teo hamono ny mpanjaka tomponao.
16. This thing is not good that thou hast done. As the LORD liveth, ye are worthy to die, because ye have not kept your master, the LORD's anointed. And now see where the king's spear is, and the cruse of water that was at his bolster.
16. Ce que tu as fait là n`est pas bien. L`Éternel est vivant! vous méritez la mort, pour n`avoir pas veillé sur votre maître, sur l`oint de l`Éternel. Regarde maintenant où sont la lance du roi et la cruche d`eau, qui étaient à son chevet!
16. Tsy tsara izany zavatra nataonao izany. Raha velona koa Jehovah, dia mendrika ny ho faty ianao, satria tsy niambina ny tomponao, ilay voahosotr' i Jehovah. Ary jereo ange izao, aiza moa ny lefon' ny mpanjaka sy ny tavoara fitondran-drano teo anilan' ny ondany?
17. And Saul knew David's voice, and said, Is this thy voice, my son David? And David said, It is my voice, my lord, O king.
17. Saül reconnut la voix de David, et dit: Est-ce bien ta voix, mon fils David? Et David répondit: C`est ma voix, ô roi, mon seigneur!
17. Ary fantatr' i Saoly ny feon' i Davida, ka hoy izy: Feonao moa izany, ry Davida zanako? Ary hoy Davida: feoko izany, ry mpanjaka tompoko.
18. And he said, Wherefore doth my lord thus pursue after his servant? for what have I done? or what evil is in mine hand?
18. Et il dit: Pourquoi mon seigneur poursuit-il son serviteur? Qu`ai-je fait, et de quoi suis-je coupable?
18. Ary hoy izy: Nahoana ny tompoko no manenjika ny mpanompony? Inona moa no nataoko, ary inona no ratsy amin' ny tanako?
19. Now therefore, I pray thee, let my lord the king hear the words of his servant. If the LORD have stirred thee up against me, let him accept an offering: but if they be the children of men, cursed be they before the LORD; for they have driven me out this day from abiding in the inheritance of the LORD, saying, Go, serve other gods.
19. "Que le roi, mon seigneur, daigne maintenant écouter les paroles de son serviteur: si c`est l`Éternel qui t`excite contre moi, qu`il agrée le parfum d`une offrande; mais si ce sont des hommes, qu`ils soient maudits devant l`Éternel, puisqu`ils me chassent aujourd`hui pour me détacher de l`héritage de l`Éternel, et qu`ils me disent: Va servir des dieux étrangers!"
19. "Ary ankehitriny, masìna ianao, ry mpanjaka tompoko, mihainoa ny tenin' ny mpanomponao. Raha Jehovah no nanesika anao hamely ahy, dia aoka izy handray fanatitra; fa raha zanak' olona kosa dia aoka izy ho voaozona eo anatrehan' i Jehovah, satria izy ireo efa nandroaka ahy androany tsy hanana anjara amin' ny lova nomen' i Jehovah ka nanao hoe: Mandehana manompoa andriamani-kafa."
20. Now therefore, let not my blood fall to the earth before the face of the LORD: for the king of Israel is come out to seek a flea, as when one doth hunt a partridge in the mountains.
20. Oh! que mon sang ne tombe pas en terre loin de la face de l`Éternel! Car le roi d`Israël s`est mis en marche pour chercher une puce, comme on chasserait une perdrix dans les montagnes.
20. "Koa aza avela ho latsaka amin' ny tany eo anatrehan' i Jehovah ny rako; fa ny mpanjakan' ny Isiraely nivoaka nitady parasy iray, tahaka ny manenjika tsipoy eny an-tendrombohitra."
21. Then said Saul, I have sinned: return, my son David: for I will no more do thee harm, because my soul was precious in thine eyes this day: behold, I have played the fool, and have erred exceedingly.
21. "Saül dit: J`ai péché; reviens, mon fils David, car je ne te ferai plus de mal, puisqu`en ce jour ma vie a été précieuse à tes yeux. J`ai agi comme un insensé, et j`ai fait une grande faute."
21. "Ary hoy Saoly: Efa nanota aho; miverena, ry Davida zanako, fa tsy hanisy ratsy anao intsony aho, fa sarobidy teo imasonao ny aiko androany; indro, efa nanao adala aho ka diso indrindra."
22. And David answered and said, Behold the king's spear! and let one of the young men come over and fetch it.
22. "David répondit: Voici la lance du roi; que l`un de tes gens vienne la prendre."
22. Ary namaly Davida ka nanao hoe: Indro, ny lefon' ny mpanjaka ! koa asaovy misy zatovo anankiray mankety haka azy.
23. The LORD render to every man his righteousness and his faithfulness; for the LORD delivered thee into my hand to day, but I would not stretch forth mine hand against the LORD's anointed.
23. "L`Éternel rendra à chacun selon sa justice et sa fidélité; car l`Éternel t`avait livré aujourd`hui entre mes mains, et je n`ai pas voulu porter la main sur l`oint de l`Éternel."
23. "Mamaly ny olona rehetra araka ny fahamarinany sy ny fahatokiany Jehovah; fa natolotr' i Jehovah teo an-tanako ianao androany, fa tsy nety naninjitra ny tanako hamely ny voahosotr' i Jehovah aho."
24. And, behold, as thy life was much set by this day in mine eyes, so let my life be much set by in the eyes of the LORD, and let him deliver me out of all tribulation.
24. Et comme aujourd`hui ta vie a été d`un grand prix à mes yeux, ainsi ma vie sera d`un grand prix aux yeux de l`Éternel et il me délivrera de toute angoisse.
24. Ary, indro, fa tahaka ny nanaovako ny ainao ho lehibe androany no mba hanaovan' i Jehovah ny aiko ho lehibe kosa ka hanafahany ahy amin' ny fahoriana rehetra.
25. Then Saul said to David, Blessed be thou, my son David: thou shalt both do great things, and also shalt still prevail. So David went on his way, and Saul returned to his place.
25. Saül dit à David: Sois béni, mon fils David! tu réussiras dans tes entreprises. David continua son chemin, et Saül retourna chez lui.
25. "Ary hoy Saoly tamin' i Davida: Hotahiana anie ianao, ry Davida zanako; hanao zava-dehibe tokoa ianao sady hahatontosa hatrany. Dia lasa i Davida, fa i Saoly kosa nitodi-doha niverina tany amin' ny fonenany."
